Weekly Highlights is a weekly newsletter sent by the BVIS Leadership Team to parents, providing updates on notable news and activities at the school. The newsletter consists of three main sections: updates from the Principal, Head of Primary, and Head of Secondary.

Tomorrow, Saturdday 13th June 2026, our 93 Year 13 students will officially graduate from BVIS. After 15 years of Primary and Secondary education, they are ready for their next step. As a staff, we are incredibly proud of them, and we look forward to seeing and hearing more of these wonderful graduates as they navigate their future. Congratulations to all!

Last night we enjoyed a beautiful Music Concert with students from across the school sharing their talents with us. The Performing Arts are growing at BVIS and with upgraded facilities from August, new opportunities for our younger students with additional specialist singing and specialist Art lessons from next year, we are excited at there being more opportunities for our youngest learners. Congratulations and well done to all involved in last night’s concert.

Next week we will celebrate some of our sports teams and athletes and recognise their contributions to the success of sports at BVIS this year. It has been a wonderful year for students of all ages with many SISAC wins and incredible performances by individuals and teams. We are excited about the addition of more Sports ECAs next year, including more swimming training for all our squads and beginners. More details to follow in August!

Next week we will also celebrate our Year 6 students as they leave primary school. They have been a wonderful cohort of students, and we have no doubt that they will continue to flourish in their secondary education. Congratulations to each and every student on completing your primary years’ education!

We say goodbye next week to an amazing bunch of dedicated and brilliant teachers. Their contributions to BVIS have been incredible, and we will miss them enormously. They take with them, our very best wishes for their exciting adventures ahead.

Dear Parents,
As we enter the penultimate weeks of another fantastic academic year in Primary, there is a real sense of excitement across the school as we begin looking ahead to 2026–2027. This week, information regarding next year’s classes has been shared with families, including details of children’s new teachers and teaching assistants, helping students begin to prepare for the next stage of their learning journey. Today, on Friday, parents will also receive their child’s school report, celebrating the progress and achievements made throughout the year.
We now look forward to an exciting final week of term, including our Moving Up Day where students will meet their new teachers, End of Year Celebrations for each year group and our final assembly as we come together to celebrate a wonderful year in Primary. We are also excited about the continued developments planned for next year, including further improvements to our EYFS learning environment, curriculum enhancements in swimming, visual and performing arts, and adjustments to the timings of the school day (as shared in my email at the end of May). Lots of exciting things to come!

Our Year 5 and Year 6 students represented BVIS with pride at the FOBISIA Games last weekend. Over three days of competition, they demonstrated outstanding commitment, resilience and sportsmanship, growing visibly as both athletes and teammates. Competing against schools from across Southeast Asia, our students delivered some excellent performances and achieved medal success in athletics, swimming, T-Ball and football. Beyond the medals, we were most proud of the way they supported one another, embraced every challenge and represented the values of our school so positively throughout the event. Congratulations to all of our competitors on an exceptional achievement.

Our Year 6 students have enjoyed two fantastic transition days in Secondary School, helping them become familiar with how life and learning work beyond Primary. Across the two days, students had the opportunity to meet new teachers and work alongside students from Years 7–9, building confidence and excitement for the next stage of their journey. One day was spent experiencing a range of exciting specialist lessons, including Science in the laboratories, Art and Design Technology, while the second day saw students working collaboratively in their House Teams within vertical tutor groups. The experience provided a wonderful insight into Secondary School life and helped students begin building new relationships and routines for the future.

This week, we have enjoyed a series of fantastic Swim Galas with students from EYFS and Years 1, 2, 3 and 4 all taking part in fun and competitive swimming events. The galas were designed to celebrate swimming as such an important part of our curriculum, promoting not only physical health and water confidence, but also supporting cognitive development, resilience and determination. It was wonderful to see so many students participating with enthusiasm and teamwork throughout the events. Well done to all of our students and a huge thank you to our PE team for organising such successful and enjoyable galas.

On Friday, we celebrated the end of the Primary Years for our oldest students at the Year 6 Celebration. As our students prepare to move on to the next stage of their education and personal development, it was a wonderful opportunity to reflect on all they have achieved during their time in Primary School. The event was filled with memorable moments as each child received a certificate and commemorative gift to celebrate their Primary journey. We also enjoyed fantastic performances from our talented students, thoughtful speeches and the presentation of our Headteacher Awards. Thank you to all the parents who joined us for this very special occasion. A bright future awaits our outstanding Year 6 class of 2025–26, and we are incredibly proud of each and every one of them.

Student Leadership has begun the exciting process of interviewing candidates for next year’s Deputy roles and Digital Leader positions.
As part of ongoing developments to the Student Leadership structure, each pair of Student Council Leads and each pair of House Captains will now be supported by a Deputy. Now open to students from Year 9 onwards, these roles have been created to provide more flexible leadership opportunities, allowing aspiring leaders to gain valuable experience by working alongside established student representatives, whilst also giving older students with an interest in organisation and management the chance to contribute to their house teams in new ways.
Alongside this expansion, the number of Digital Leaders across the houses is also being increased, giving more students the opportunity to contribute to school life through communication, media and student engagement initiatives, while helping to shape the digital well-being of our student body.
The expansion of leadership opportunities will continue into Term 1 next year, when applications open for Student Mentor positions. The number of mentors will increase from four to six per house, allowing even more students to play an active role in supporting their peers. House leadership teams will also welcome a new Careers and Universities Champion, who will help younger students begin thinking about their future pathways, from IGCSE options and A Levels to university and careers beyond the doors of BVIS.
The Art Department hosted its iGCSE and A Level Art & Design Exhibition, welcoming students, parents and teachers to celebrate the creativity and achievements of our young artists. The exhibition showcased an impressive range of work, including final iGCSE outcomes, developing Y12 projects, and personal investigations by Year 13 students. The exhibition provided an opportunity to celebrate the hard work, commitment and creative journeys of our students over the past two years. We wish all of our iGCSE and A Level students the very best of luck with their results and look forward to following the next steps of our Year 13 artists as they begin university courses in Fashion Design, Illustration and Graphic Design.

Year 9 students have been enjoying their robotics unit in Computer Science with Mr Twemlow and Mr Saini. Throughout the unit, students have been working with robots to solve a range of programming challenges, from navigating a maze using loops and movement commands to incorporating more advanced sensors, such as the ultrasonic sensor for obstacle detection.
Problem-solving is a key part of Computer Science, and it has been fantastic to see students applying a wide range of skills developed throughout the year. As we reach the final week of term, this unit has provided an engaging and practical way for students to bring their learning together.
